Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain bioceramics having excellent biocompatibility, by adding amorphous silica and alpha-alumina in a specific proportion to calcium triphosphate or hydroxyapatite powder and calcining the resultant blend under specific condition. CONSTITUTION:Amorphous silica powder is mixed with alumina powder so as to provide 2/1-4/1 ratio (by weight) of silica/alumina. The resultant mixed powder in an amount of 5-30% is then added to powder of calcium triphosphate or hydroxyapatite and blended to afford a raw material powder, which is subsequently formed and calcined at 1,200-1,350 deg.C.
