Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a surface-treated steel material excellent in adhesive strength and corrosion resistance, by successively forming a primary layer of Co-Zn alloy plating and a secondary layer of electrolytic chromating under respectively specified conditions on the surface of a galvanized steel material. CONSTITUTION:Co-Zn alloy plating is applied to the surface of a galvanized steel material by using this steel material as a cathode in >=1A/dm<2> current density, by which a Co-Zn alloy plating film as formed as the primary layer. Subsequently, an electrolytic chromate film as the secondary layer is formed by using a bath containing 2.6-78g/l of Cr<6+>, 0.5-75g/l, expressed in terms of SiO2 and/or Al2O3, of colloidal silica and/or slumina sol, and 0.05-5g/l, expressed in terms of F, of fluoride under the electrolytic chromating conditions of 1-50A/dm<2> current density and 1-100C/dm<2> quantity of electricity. By this method, whether painted or unpainted, the surface-treated steel material excellent in adhesive strength and corrosion resistance can be obtained.
