Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled thin film containing polymer main chain oriented in a specific direction, having excellent crystallinity and suitable for non-linear optical device, photochromism device, etc., by rubbing a diacetylene monomer layer and polymerizing the monomer. CONSTITUTION:A diacetylene monomer having conjugated diacetylene bond [e.g. the compound of formula (m=n or mnot equal to n) is deposited on a substrate made of glass, single crystal, etc., e.g. by a laser deposition process to form a layer having a thickness of preferably 20-5,000Angstrom . The layer is rubbed with a cloth such as silicone cloth and then polymerized e.g. with X-ray irradiation to obtain the objective thin film.
