Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous detection by mounting a magnet to a moving body, fixing a magneto-optical field sensor using a Faraday effect element to the position corresponding to the movement of the magnet and detecting the approach or secession of the magnet to or from the magnetic field sensor according to the movement of the moving body. CONSTITUTION:The magnet 8 of an annular shape having a gap 9 is mounted to the moving body 1 and the magneto-optical sensor 10 is fixed in the direction orthogonal with the line connecting the gap 9. Optical fibers 4, 5 are drawn out of the sensor 10. The gap 9 of the magnet 8 mounted to the moving body 1 is so adjusted that the face of the sensor 10 fits therein when the moving body 1 moves. The output of the sensor 10 changes as the moving body 1 approach or secede to or from the sensor. The movement of the moving body is thus detected. The approach in particular is exactly detected by the magnetic coupling of the annular magnet or iron core.
