Abstract

In this position sensor, a mobile component (100) generates a magnetic field (He). One or more fixed magnetoresistive components (200) sensitive to the magnetic field (He) are orientated so that the anisotropic direction is situated in a plane which is approximately parallel to the direction (Oy) in which the mobile component (100) moves. A system associated with the magnetoresistive component (200) produces a position signal as a function of the useful magnetic field created by the mobile component (100) in the magnetoresistive component (200). The mobile component (100) can be conductor in which a current flows or a magnet. In one application, a fixed conductor (300) is placed near each magnetoresistive component. A compensating current (Ic) flows inside this conductor (300) in order to create a magnetic field so that the resulting field is approximately zero.
