Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the titled medium which has excellent traveling durability and electromagnetic conversion characteristics by incorporating specific particulate SiC as a polishing material into a magnetic layer in a range of 2.0-1.0wt.% by the weight of ferromagnetic powder. CONSTITUTION:The particles having the particle size within a 0.4-0.9mum range is incorporated as the polishing agent into the magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium and the particulate siC having the average particle size over the entire part within a 0.1-0.3mum range is incorporated therein in the range of 2.0-10.0wt.% by the weight of the ferromagnetic powder. Namely, the siC in the magnetic layer contains a slight amt. of the coarse particles in addition to the fine particles and contributes to an improvement in the resistance to scratching. Both the resistance to scratching and the sticking characteristic between tapes or the tape and head are thereby improved and, therefore, the traveling durability is improved.
