Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform connection without deteriorating hardness by forming a rocker chip to be connected to the tip of a rocker arm of silicon nitride ceramic, forming an oxide film on the surface thereof by means of heating, and then connecting it to the rocker arm through an aluminum foil. CONSTITUTION:A rocker chip 1a made of silicon nitride ceramics is connected to the tip of an arm rocker 1b made of cast iron, in a rocker arm 1 of a tappet valve mechanism. As for the connection, firstly the rocker chip 1a is heated to about 1000 deg.C to 1100 deg.C for about 2 hours in the atmosphere to form an oxide film on the surface thereof, and to improve the wettability with aluminum. Next, electroless nickel plating is applied on the arm rocker 1b before inserting aluminum foil along a connected face between the rocker chip 1a and the arm rocker 1b and clamping them with a jig. Afterward, the aluminum is melted by vacuum heating and both members 1a, 1b are connected to each other.
