Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound from (Z)-N-acyl-1-(4-methoxyphe nylmethylene)-3,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydroisoquinoline, by asymmetric hydrogenation reaction using a ruthenium-phosphine complex. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by formula IV (R<1> is H or alkyl) is hydrogenated in the presence of an optically active ruthenium-phosphine catalyst [especially preferably selected from compounds shown by formula I (X is halogen; Y is H, amino, acetylamino or sulfone; R<2> is H or alkyl), group shown by formula II or formula III [A is Z are ClO4, PF6, BF4 or R<3>COO (R<3> is alkyl or phenyl) A and Z form alkylenedicarboxy] to give the titled compound shown by formula V. The compound shown by formula V is useful as an intermediate for producing (+)-dextromethorphan.
