Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a powder coating composition which can adhere to a metallic substrate without any primer to give a smooth surface, by adding an epoxy group-reactive crosslinking compound and a polymerizable unsaturated compound to a specified vinyl chloride terpolymer. CONSTITUTION:A powder coating composition is prepared by mixing 100pts.wt. terpolymer (A) of an average degree of polymerization of 400-800, comprising an epoxy monomer (a) (e.g., glycidyl methacrylate), an alkyl vinyl ether (b) (e.g., n-butyl vinyl ether) and vinyl chloride (c) with 0.1-5pts.wt. epoxy group- reactive crosslinking compound (B) (e.g., a carboxylterminated polyester resin based on a dicarboxylic acid and a dialcohol) and 0.5-10pts.wt. polymerizable unsaturated compound (C) having at least two double bonds (e.g., trimethylolpropane triacrylate), This composition can adhere to a metallic substrate without any primer and can give a film excelling in smoothness and retaining chemical resistance, weathering resistance and mechanical strengths in which a vinyl chloride powder coating are excellent.
