Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform the after-treatment of separation, washing and drying of a polyarylene sulfide polymer suspension in a single after-treatment apparatus in good efficiency, by draining and seiving out the polymer suspension through a screen and drying the residue by heating in a vacuum. CONSTITUTION:A polymer suspension fed to a cylindrical body 1 is drained and seived through an exit 5 with a screen 4 to remove the bulk of the polymerization solvent and by-products. A polyarylene sulfide polymer, small amount of the solvent and the by-products are left in the body 1. A solvent is added to the residue in the vessel 1 from a washing liquid inlet 8 on the upper part of the body 1, and the residue is fully washed with this solvent by sufficiently agitating with an agitation mechanism 9. The mixture is drained and seived through the exit 5 with the screen 4. Water is added to the residue instead of the solvent in the body 1, and the mixture is fully washed agitation and drained through the exit 5. The vessel body 1 is heated in a vacuum to dry the residue. After cooling, the dried polyarylene sulfide polymer is discharged through an exit 6.
