Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce a changeover shock from a high compression ratio to the lower one by making pressure oil in an upper liquid chamber inside a piston dischargeable at proper speed at a time when high pressure combustion pressure acts on top of the outer piston externally fitted i an inner piston where a connecting rod is connected.
CONSTITUTION: With upward movement of an outer piston 21, an upper liquid chamber 31 is formed in space between the said piston 21 and an inner piston 29, and also with the downward movement, a lower liquid chamber 32 is made so as to be formed in space between an annulus 22 and the inner piston 29. And, a spool valve 26 is fitted in a working liquid chamber 25 in the inner part of the piston 23 fixed to the inner piston 29, and a feed passage 35 and a discharge passage 36 are made so as to be selectable. This spool valve 26 is moved in the opening direction of the discharge passage 36 according to hydraulic pressure in the upper liquid chamber 31 to be transmitted through a pressure passage 37, and according to the travel, an opening section area of the pressure passage 37 is made controllable to be gradually smaller by a control part consisting of a peripheral end of the pressure receiving groove 47 formed in a valve body 26b.
