Abstract
PURPOSE:To quicken the lock time by providing a harmonic wave selection amplifier circuit between a VCO and a variable frequency divider to increase a reference frequency at the same frequency interval. CONSTITUTION:An output of a VCO 4 includes a fundamental wave and its harmonic waves, the signals are given to a harmonic selection amplifier circuit 5 and a signal only at a high level in optional harmonics is amplified selectively and sent to a variable frequency divider 6. The frequency divider 6 is operated at a frequency with the maximum level in the input frequency. When the number of order of the harmonic is N, the output of the circuit 5 is N.f0 and the comparison signal frequency of a phase comparator 2 is N.f0/M, where M is the frequency division number of the frequency divider 6 and it is equal to a reference frequency fR in the stable state of the PLL system. Thus, the frequency interval f with respect to the fundamental wave fR of the output of the VCO 4 is fR/N. As a result, the operation at a frequency being an optional integer multiple of the frequency is attained in response to the requirement of the f based on the reference frequency fR.
