Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a highly crystalline polypropylene with outstanding physical properties by polymerization of propylene using a catalyst, i.e. a combination of an organoaluminum compound and a solid catalyst as the transition metal catalyst prepared by cogrinding kaolin and TiCl3. CONSTITUTION:The objective polypropylene can be obtained by polymerization of propylene pref. at normal temperature to 100 deg.C under normal pressure to 50kg/cm<2> guage using a catalyst, i.e., a combination of (A) an organoaluminum compound and (B) a transition metal catalyst prepared by cogrinding kaolin and TiCl3 in the weight ratio: 5/100 to 1/2 in general followed by pref. washing with an inert solvent such as pentane or methyl chloride. For said cogrinding, combined use of 0.05 to 0.5 mole per mole of the TiCl3, of an electron donating compound such as phosphoric ester or amine, will enhance the stereoregularity of the polypropylene produced.
