PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material suitable tor high-speed recording and high in image stability, by providing a thermal recording layer comprising a leuco dye and a color developer as main constituents on a base, and using a phenolic compound and a vinyl ether compound as auxiliary constituents. CONSTITUTION:At least one phenolic compound of any of formulas [I]-[VI] and at least one vinyl ether compound of formula [VII] are used as auxiliary constituents. In formulas [I]-[VII], each of R1 and R2 is a 1-6C alkyl or cycloalkyl, R3 is-C (CH)2-or SO2-, X is a halogen, each of R4 and R5 is a 1-4C alkyl, each of R6, R7 and R8 is hydrogen, a 1-6C alkyl or cycloalkyl, and R9 is a 1-4C alkyl or aralkyl. In formula [VIII], Ar is a benzene ring, naphthalene ring, halogen, alkyl or aralkyl. A color developer may be a phenolic compound, a thiophenolic compound, a thiourea derivative, an organic acid or a metallic salt thereof or the like.
