Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance catalyst utilizing efficiency and to stabilize a void volume, by forming projections to at least one surface of a porous fluoroplastic plate having voids and forming a conductive film to said plate on the projection provided surface side thereof. CONSTITUTION:Gas to be inspected transmits through the voids 2,... of a porous polytetrafluoroethylene plate 1 forming a substrate to transmit through the fine spaces formed between the projections 3,.... The electrolyte 24 received in a container can not transmit through the voids 12 because of the high hydrophobicity of the ethylene plate 1 and a three-phase coexisting condition of gaseous phase-liquid phase-catalyst is formed on a gas acting surface by the fine spaces between the projections. By this constitution, the objective gas is brought into contact with the electrolyte 24 on the surfaces of the projections 3 to receive the catalytic action of a conductive film 4 to generate oxidizing or reducing reaction and the electrolytic current proportional to the concn. of the gas is generated between the film 4 and an opposed electrode 23. Since the film 4 is formed to the surface of the substrate made uneven by the projections 3, the film 4 is fixed to the substrate by high bonding strength and not detached by external force in spite of long time use.
