Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a color filter which has no step cutting, projecting parts, etc., and has high light shieldability by overlapping filter layers on light shielding layers and gently sloping the front faces of an overcoating layer thereby maintaining the steps by the differences in the thicknesses of the respective filter layers. CONSTITUTION:The light shielding layers 2 which consist of at least either of a metal or metal compd. and have desired shapes are provided on a transparent substrate 1 and the org. resin filter layers 3 dyed by dyes are provided for required number of colors to prescribed thicknesses to a desired pattern shape. The ends of the filter layers 3 are overlapped on the light shielding layers 2 and such overcoating layer 4 which fills the spacings between the adjacent filter layers 3 is provided while maintaining the surface ruggedness generated by the prescribed thicknesses of the filter layers. The color filter which has the high light shieldability, facilitates the registration of the light absorption layers and the color filter layers 3 and obviates the generation of the projecting parts by the step cutting and overlapping is thereby obtd.
