Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the title particle which has a large surface area because of its particulate form and hence can effectively exhibit photochromic properties, and which comprises a photochromic compd.-contg. polymer in the form of particles having a specified mean particle diameter. CONSTITUTION:The photochromic polymer particle of the invention comprises a polymer contg. a photochromic compd. [e.g., 6'-nitro-1-(meth)acryloxyethyl-3,3- dimethylindolinospirobenzopyrane], e.g., a polymer obtd. by copolymerizing a photochromic compd. with a copolymerizable monomer [e.g., styrene, alkyl (meth)acrylate, etc.], and is in the form of particles having a mean particle diameter of 0.1-100mum. The particle has a large surface area because of its particulate form and hence can effectively exhibit photochromic properties. Thus, it can be used in various application fields.
