Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily obtain polymer particles having monodisperse particle diameter distribution, containing no impurities, by using a polymer particles obtained by polymerizing a monomer polymerizable by dispersion polymerization as seed, absorbing a monomer in the seed and polymerizing.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer [e.g. styrene or methyl (meth)acrylate] polymerizable by dispersion polymerization is polymerized to give polymer particles, which are used as seed. The same monomer as the above-mentioned monomer and/or a different monomer is absorbed in the seed and the monomer is polymerized in this state to produce polymer particles. The amount of the monomer absorbed is usually 1W500 times as much as the weight of the seed. The prepared polymer particles have 1W100μm particle diameters and the particle diameters are monodisperse. The absorption of the monomer in the seed, for example, is carried out by adding the monomer made into an oily drop state to the polymerization system containing the seed blended with a dispersion stabilizer such as polyvinyl alcohol having 88% saponification degree and 500W3,000 polymerization degree.
