Abstract
PURPOSE: To make a liquid crystal display panel high-contrast and high-picture quality by forming polarizing plates of liquid crystal so that their directions of axes of polarization are different by color picture elements of respective colors in proportion to optical rotatory powers of respective color picture element transmission wavelengths. CONSTITUTION: Polarizing plates 2-1 and 2-2' are arranged on inside faces of a glass plate of an upper substrate l. Color filters R, G, and B, a protective film 3, a common electrode 4, and an oriented film 5 are arranged on these polarizing plates 2-1 and 2-2'. A black matrix BM is arranged between color filters R, G, and B. Meanwhile, a picture element electrode 7, a TFT 6, and an oriented film 5' are arranged on the inside face of a glass plate of a lower substrate l', and a liquid crystal layer 8 is arranged between upper and lower susbtrates 1 and l' to constitute a color liquid crystal panel. Polarizing plates 2-l and 2-2' are formed differently by color filters (picture elements) R, G, and B so that directions of axes of polarization of these polarizing plates are arranged differently in proportion to optical rotatory powers of respective color filters. Consequently, blackening of the liquid crystal panel is eliminated and is made highcontrast and high-picture quality.
