Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a TN type liquid crystal negative display element from being dotted with minute white omission parts, by using a colored glass fiber pieces as gap holding spacers between upper and lower substrates and reducing the quantity of the light passing through glass fibers. CONSTITUTION:Glass substrates 1 which have polarizing plates on outside faces and have transparent electrodes and oriented films on inside faces are used as upper and lower substrates. Colored glass fiber pieces are used as spacers 4 for the purpose of keeping the gap between upper and lower substrates constant. A TN type liquid crystal 3 is sealed through colored glass fiber spaces 4 to obtain a negative liquid crystal display element where data is displayed with white characters in a thick color such as a black color. The quantity of the light passing through spacers 4 is absorbed by colored glass fiber spacers 4 and is reduced, and thus, white omission is not generated even in positions where spacers 4 are interposed.

In liquid crystal display elements, pieces of transparent glass fiber are dispersed between the substrates as spacers to maintain the narrow distance between the upper and lower substrates. A transparent glass fiber was used.

However, where the spacer exists, there is no liquid crystal between the upper and lower substrates, and linearly polarized light passes through without being rotated around the polarization axis. In the case of a display element, light can pass through the area where the spacer is interposed, resulting in an unsightly display with small white spots scattered in the area k that should be the background color.

An object of the present invention is to provide a negative display liquid crystal display element which does not have the above-mentioned problems, prevents white spots from being scattered in the background color area, and provides a clear display.

In order to achieve the above object, the present invention uses a colored rather than a transparent glass fiber for the spacer to reduce the amount of light passing through the glass fiber, making the spacer intervening area, which was easily noticeable in the past, less noticeable. I felt a lot of pressure.

A lower substrate, 2 are upper and lower polarizing plates having polarization axes parallel to each other, 3 is a liquid crystal, and 4 is a spacer made of a piece of colored glass fiber according to the present invention. By carrying out the present invention, the amount of light passing through the spacer is reduced due to absorption by the colored glass fiber, and white spots will not occur even in the spacer-interposed area. Black or gastric coloring of the glass fiber showed good results. To make it black, use trivalent rims. To make the mixture of trivalent nickel and mango/I blue, cobalt may be added at the time of fiber formation.

The present invention can also be implemented in a negative color liquid crystal display element, and the spacer may be a piece of glass fiber colored in the same color as the dichroic dye added to the color liquid crystal.

As explained above, according to the present invention, it is possible to prevent a large number of minute white spots caused by spacers from being scattered in the background color portion of a negative display, and the appearance of the display becomes clear.
