Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance electric chargeability performance and to improve dark decay of a photosensitive body by rendering the band gap of a surface layer larger than that of a photoconductive layer and differentiating the conduction type of the surface layer from that of the photoconductive layer. CONSTITUTION:The surface layer to be formed on the photoconductive layer of the electrophotographic sensitive body has the optical band made larger than that of the photoconductive layer, and the surface layer is made of an amorphous material containing a base material Si and C and H (a-SiC:H) and the photoconductive layer is made of an amorphous material composed of Si as a base material, thus permitting sensitivity to be improved by exposing the photoconductive layer to sufficient light. The conduction type of the surface layer is made different from that of the photoconductive layer, for example, when the photoconductive layer is of a P-type, the surface layer is made an N-type or intrinsic, and when the photoconductive layer is of an N-type, the surface layer is made a P-type or intrinsic, thus permitting dark decay to be suppressed and chargeability to be improved, and chargeability performance and sensitivity to be improved by forming said surface layer.
