Abstract

PURPOSE:To minimize consumption of a reference sample while reducing an adjusting time, by a method wherein each particle of a sample unhulled rice is irradiated with light, the quantity of diffusively transmitted light and that of diffusively reflected light or a quantity of light ratio thereof are stored and a memory data is read out to decide on a quality rank. CONSTITUTION:A detecting section irradiates each particle of a sample unhulled rice 8 with light to detect the quantity T of diffusively transmitted light and that R of diffusively reflected light. The quantities T and R of light are inputted into a decision control section 16 to compute a quantity of light ratio, which is compared with a criterion level preset to decide on a quality rank of unhulled rice. The quantities T and R of light inputted or a quantity of light ratio are stored into a RAM of the decision section 16. When the state of selection is not normal, an adjusting person operates a keyboard 76 to adjust a criterion level contained in the decision section 16 so that it coincides with a quality rank indicated on a display section 78. Then, the quantities T and R of light and the quantity of light ratio stored in the RAM of the decision section 16 are read out to be collated with the criterion level newly adjusted. This minimizes consumption of the reference sample thereby enabling a reduction in adjusting time.
