Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide feed control with high responsive speed by providing an electrode feeder for frictionally drivably pressing vibrator vibrated with supersonic wave against an electrode, electrode support or a workpiece support section.
CONSTITUTION: A vibrator 5 for feeding a pipe electrode 1 is formed on the contact surface with a vertical notch 5a to increase the amplitude and improve the efficiency and provided on the back with an electrostriction material 6 or magnetostriction material to receive two-phase high frequency signals having 90° phase difference from a phase separator 11 and generate the progressive wave so that the vibrator acts on and feed frictionally the pipe electrode 1 forcibly contacting. The regulation and control of a working gap between the pipe electrode 1 and the opposed workpice 2 are carried out by such feed control. Gap voltage is high under the condition of widened working gap and detected by a resistor 9 such that supersonic frequency generated from a V-F converter 10 is increased to increase the feed speed of pipe electrode 1 through the phase separator 11 and controllably narrow the working gap. Thus, the electric discharge machining can be carried out with stability and at high speed.
