Abstract

PURPOSE: To control tension and speed with high degree response by forming a take-up device and/or brake for transferring a wire electrode of a vibrator having an electrostriction material or the like vibrating with supersonic wave and fixedly secured thereto and driving said vibrator to be pressed frictionally against the wire electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A take-up device 5 draws and shifts a wire electrode 1 by frictional drive of progressive wave of wave of bymolf type bending vibration generated in a vibrator ring 51 while a plurality of electrostriction elements 52 fixed to the inner periphery of an annular vibrator 51 are expanded and contracted in the direction of arrow by applying high frequency voltage having phases offset 90° from each other to electrodes aWd from a power source E1 and to electrodes eWh from a power source E2. Also, a brake 4 is similarly constituted from an annular vibrator 41 and a plurality of electrostriction elements 42, and when the supersonic energization is reversed, the brake is applied to the wire electrode 1 and give tension thereto. Thus the tension and speed of wire electrode can be controlled with high efficiency and satisfactory response.
