Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a high-purity metal fluoride by adding a dithiocarbamate compound to an aqueous solution of fluorine-contg. metal salt to extract the impurities contained and by dehydration followed by deammoniation and hydrogen fluoride elimination of the resulting precipitate. CONSTITUTION:A combination of a dithiocarbamate compound and solvent is added to an aqueous solution of a water-soluble salt of formula MFx (M is metal selected from Zr, Ba, La, Y, Al, Li and Na, x is 1-4) to extract the impurities such as Cr, Fe, Ni and Cu into the organic phase. The aqueous phase is concentrated into a concentrate or precipitate, which is then dehydrated followed by deammoniation and hydrogen fluoride elimination, then carrying out drying, thus obtaining the objective metal fluoride with extremely low content of transition metals, suitable as a starting material for fluoride-based optical fiber.
