Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable clear recording even on a transfer recording paper poor in surface smoothness and transfer clear and high-grade images with little missing of dots, by providing a thermally transferable ink layer with a three-layer laminate structure. CONSTITUTION:A thermally transferred ink layer provided on a heat-resistant base comprises a first layer so prepared as at least to become a low-viscosity liquid through melting when being heated and a second layer so prepared as to become sticky but not become a low-viscosity liquid through melting when being heated, the first and second layers being provided in that order. Further, a third layer which comprises a heat-softenable resin becoming sticky but not being melted when being heated as a main constituent and has a hardness of 45-65 deg. is provided on the second layer, whereby a transfer-type thermal recording medium can be obtained which enables clear printing even on a transfer recording paper poor in surface smoothness, without formation of voids in printed images or missing of dots. The first layer comprises a wax as a main constituent. The second layer comprises a resin as a main constituent, which resin may be an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or the like. As a resin component of the third layer, a combination of two ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers differing in hardness is used.
