Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a thermal transfer recording medium such as a thermal transfer ribbon and a thermal transfer sheet capable of matting the surface of a printed matter, causing cohesive failure in either of an anchor layer and a thermal transfer layer in the vicinity of the interface therebetween at the time of thermal transfer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer recording material 5 comprises a base 1 such as a plastic film, an anchor layer 2 and a thermal transfer layer 3. The anchor layer 2 is provided between the thermal transfer layer 3 and the base 1 so that the cohesive forces of the thermal transfer layer 3 and the anchor layer 2 are weaker than the adhesive force between the base 1 and the anchor layer 2, the adhesive force between the anchor layer 2 and the thermal transfer layer 3, and the adhesive force between the thermal transfer layer 3 and an image-receiving material at the time of thermal transfer. With the anchor layer 2 and the thermal transfer layer 3 thus provided, either of them undergoes cohesive failure in the vicinity of the interface of them at the time of thermal transfer, whereby a sufficient matting effect can be obtained on a printed surface of the image-receiving material.
