Abstract

PURPOSE:To suitably manufacture continuously identical products from a long rod-like material, by a method wherein a plurality of devices, having approximately the same structure as that of a first hydro expanding part, are formed in an axial direction, and an oil pressure is transmitted selectively in two hollow space. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece W is machined in a state to be gripped by a chuck 10, a machined part is separated from the workpiece W or an oil pressure in hydro expanding parts 11a1,...11a4 is reduced to zero to release the workpiece W from gripping. The workpiece W is fed to the front from the rear of a main spindle 25 again, and the workpiece W is set in a machining position. An oil pressure is transmitted to the hydro expanding parts 11a1,...11a4 through oil holes 15a1,...15a4 to grip the workpiece W for machining. Through repetition of the above procedures, the chuck 10 enables a long rodform material to be machined to produce products which are suitable for continuous manufacture of identical products.
