Abstract

PURPOSE:To obviate the need of using a system exclusively for a certain type of circuit boards and to provide a transportation system capable of utilizing a certain part of conveyors or related robots efficiently for transporting each workpiece to a proper component packaging apparatus or causing it to bypass the packaging apparatus, by providing means for identifying work pieces. CONSTITUTION:Frames tor carrying and conveying printed circuit board workpieces have mechanically readable representations (e.g. bar codes) attached thereon, so that the frames are guided to proper robots. One method of guiding a workpiece to a robot work station is implemented by arranging power-driven conveyors 6 in the upper and lower positions on a vertical plane. If the robot work station 8 is to be disposed on one of the conveyors, the work station 8 should be disposed on the upper conveyor while the lower conveyor provides a bypass therefor. Elevators 5, 12 are provided on the opposite sides of the work station so that they connect the upper and lower conveyors. In this manner, it is possible to provide a transportation system capable of realizing efficient packaging of components.
