Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain a large coercive force, excellent photomagnetic characteristic and anti-oxidation characteristic by setting a content of Pt to 15 atomic% or higher in a particular amorphous alloy thin film having an axis for easy magnetization perpendicular to the film surface. CONSTITUTION:An amorphous alloy thin film having an axis for easy magnetization perpendicular to the film surface is indicated by the formula I. In this formula, RE includes Tb or Dy of at least 50 atomic % or more and a remainder of Nd, Gd, Ce, Eu, Pr, Ho or Sm, with 0.3<x, 0.15<=y<=0.3, 0.5<=z<=1.0. In the particularly desirable amorphous alloy thin film, 0.4<x, Tb is at least 80 atomic % or more and desirably 90 atomic % or more of RE while Pt 15 atomic % or more but 30 atomic % or less and more desirably 18 atomic % or more but 25 atomic % or less. Thereby, a large coercive force, excellent photomagnetic characteristic, excellent anti-oxidation characteristic and high reflectivity can be attained.
