Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a character wheel to be positioned in a desirable position, by a method wherein the pawl of a pawl rod is led between teeth of a positioning gear provided on the character wheel to be engaged immediately before a type is struck by an impact hammer. CONSTITUTION:Due to the rotation of a stepping motor 2, a character wheel 8 is driven into a required position through a start gear 6 and a positioning gear 11, an impact solenoid 25 is actuated, and a plunger 25' of the impact solenoid 25 travels toward the character wheel 8 together with a hammer head 27 and a rocking body 28 serving as a transmission means to rock a pawl rod 37 against the tension of a spring 45. In this manner, the pawl 38 is engaged between the teeth of the positioning gear 11 for a character wheel body 15, whereby the character wheel body 15, i.e. a character wheel 8, is stopped there to be positioned. The plunger 25' is successively traveled with the hammer head 27, whereby a type 9 of the character wheel 8 is struck by the hammer 27 through a carbon ribbon 47 and a paper 48 to perform a printing on the paper 48.
