Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the titled recording medium which has excellent recording characteristics and reproducing characteristics and the high stability of a magnetic layer and is suitable for a magneto-optical memory having a high density and high sensitivity by forming the magnetic layer into the two-layered structure consisting of a reproducing layer formed of an amorphous alloy and the recording layer formed of a crystalline alloy, which alloys consist respectively of specific compsns. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer 14 and the reproducing layer 13 are formed of the alloys having the compsn. expressed by Mn1-x-yAxDy (A is an element selected from Al, Ga, In, Sb, Bi, Te, Se, Sn, Pb, and As; D is an element selected from Ge, Si, C, B, P, Cu, Zn, Ti, and Pt; 0.1<=x<=0.6, 0.1<=y<=0.6). The recording layer 14 consists essentially of the crystalline alloy and the reproducing layer 13 of the amorphous alloy. Since the amorphous alloy applied to the reproducing layer 13 has an excellent magneto-optical effect such as large angle of Kerr rotation, said layer exhibits the high C/N of the reproduction signal and the excellent reproducing characteristics. The crystalline alloy which is applied to the recording layer 14 and has the same compsn. exhibits high coercive force and the excellent recording characteristic. Furthermore, these compsns. have high stability.
