Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a mis-setting at an early stage and avoid contaminating a paper or missing of data, by providing a means for detecting an abnormal feed of an ink ribbon, and a means for positively slackening the ribbon when head gap is abnormal. CONSTITUTION:A carrier 2 can be moved perpendicularly to a platen 3 in conjunction with a paper thickness adjusting lever, to adjust head gap. A feeding rubber as a slackening means 8 is fixed to an end part of the carrier 2 on the upstream side with respect to the feeding direction of an ink ribbon. When a rubber member 8a makes contact with the ink ribbbon 5, the ribbon 5 being fed is braked by a frictional force, resulting in a slackening in the ribbon 5. A slack-detecting means 9 is disposed at a roller nearest to a ribbon outlet of a ribbon cassette 6. A roller rotated according to the movement of the ribbon and a magnetic coil means are disposed on the path of the ribbon, and the carrier for a head operated in conjunction with the paper thickness adjusting means is provided with a flexible elastic member having a high frictional coefficient opposite to the ribbon, whereby an abnormal head gap can be detected at an early stage.
