Abstract
PURPOSE:To instantaneously and accurately measure the depth of the rest grooves of a tire and to display whether or not the depth is proper by converging an ultrasonic wave which is sent by a transmitter receiver by a waveguide and receiving reflected waves from the trend and rest groove bottom surfaces of the tire. CONSTITUTION:The ultrasonic wave transmitter receiver 8 is provided below a cover plate 2a where the tire 1 is mounted so that is adjusted by a stepping motor 7. The emit ultrasonic wave is converged in a beam shape by the waveguide 10 and reflected by the tread 1a or tread reset grooves 1b, and the reflected waves are received. A signal processing part measures the propagation time of the ultrasonic wave and calculates the difference between pieces of distance information on the tread 1a and the bottom surface of the rest groove 1b to find the depth of the tread rest groove 1b. An arithmetic part compares the measured depth of the rest groove 1b of the tread with a reference value corresponding to preset proper tread groove depth to decide and display whether or not the depth of the rest groove of the tread, i.e. the wear quantity of the tread is proper.
