Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a foam, available in a short time without collapsing or deforming cells having flameproofness and flame retardance, by thermally expanding and curing expandable polystyrene beads and an expandable phenolic polymer together with a resorcin based compound. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of expandable polystyrene beads with an expandable phenolic polymer and a resorcin based compound or a condensate thereof with an aldehyde is placed in a given mold and thermally expanded and cured. The beads in an amount of 5-30wt.% are mixed with 40-70wt.% phenolic resin and 5-20wt.% resorcin based compound.
