Abstract

PURPOSE:To extremely easily obtain the titled compound useful as food and drug, etc., in high purity, by contacting a polymer having amino group coordinated with metal ion with an aqueous solution of an amino acid and eluting the amino acid. CONSTITUTION:An amino acid is purified and separated by contacting an aqueous solution of amino acid with a polymer having amino group coordinated with a metal ion (e.g. transition metal ion, especially ion of Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, etc.) and eluting the amino acid from the polymer. Especially excellent effect of the process can be attained in the separation and purification of leucine containing isoleucine, methionine, etc., as impurities and produced by the alkali neutralization and precipitation of an acid-hydrolyzed casein, keratin, hemoglobin, etc. The reaction is carried out by adjusting the pH of the amino acid aqueous solution to about 2-12.
