Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for polyfluoroalkylcarboxylic acid, etc., in high yield, by using a perfluoroalkene as an industrially available inexpensive raw material and reacting the material with an alcohol in the presence of a palladium salt. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II (R is 1-12C alkyl or alkylene) which is a raw material for polyfluoroalkylcarboxylic acid, etc., useful as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals, lubricant, surface-treating agent, etc., is produced by reacting (A) a polyfluoroalkene of formula I (Rf is 1-12C perfluoroalkyl; n is 0-3) such as trifluoropropane with (B) a 1-12C alcohol such as methanol or ethylene glycol in the presence of a palladium salt catalyst such as PdCl2 using a copper salt such as CuCl2 as an oxidizing agent preferably in the copresence of an organic solvent (e.g. 1,4-dioxane or acetic acid) and an F-removing agent such as Al(OH)3 preferably at 50-90 deg.C under pressure.
