Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily and efficiently subject even a natural fiber to wet transfer printing by using a polymer gel capable of reversibly absorbing and releasing water by change in temperature as a transfer medium for a dye ink. CONSTITUTION: A mesh cloth of a polyester-based fiber is coated with a polyvinyl methyl ether (37-38 deg.C transition temperature) and irradiated with an electron ray to form a sheetlike transfer medium composed of a cross-linked gel of a polyvinyl methyl ether. The transfer medium is immersed in water at <=30 deg.C. Water is absorbed in the gel and the transfer medium is printed with a dye ink in a pattern state. A cloth to be printed is piled on the transfer medium, hot-pressed at >=40 deg.C to release water and to simultaneously transfer the ink to the cloth. Consequently, wet transfer printing is extremely efficiently carried out.
