Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a cation exchanger having a high ion exchange capacity, a low water content and excellent mechanical strengths, by introducing haloalkyl groups into a specified aromatic condensation polymer and introducing cationic exchange groups into this film. CONSTITUTION:Haloalkyl groups (e.g., chloromethyl groups) are introduced into an imide bond-, amide bond- or ester bond- free aromatic condensation polymer (e.g., polysulfone or polyether sulfone) by contact with a haloalkyl ether and a Lewis acid or the like method. Cation exchange groups (e.g., sulfonic groups) are introduced into the aromatic condensation polymer to which haloalkyl groups are introduced by reaction with a cation exchange group introducing reagent (e.g., chlorosulfonic acid) to obtain the purpose cation exchanger. The obtained cation exchanger can be suitably used as, e.g., a diaphragm for electrodialysis.
