Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high image quality with excellent gradation properties and with gloss even on an ordinary paper having a low smoothness, by providing on a base a heat-fusible colored ink layer, a colorless transparent or white ink layer for smoothening an image-receiving paper, and a colorless transparent ink layer comprising a heat-fusible acrylic resin. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording medium comprises an ink layer 1 which comprises a coloring matter-containing ink layer 3, a colorless transparent or white ink layer 2 provided on the leading end side of the ink layer 3 so as to smoothen an image-receiving paper, and an ink layer 4 comprising a heat-fusible acrylic layer and provided on the trailing end side of the ink layer 3. At the time of perform gradational recording on an ordinary paper having a low smoothness, namely, a rough paper a smoothness of not higher than 100sec, the transparent or white ink is first printed to smoothen the image- receiving paper, then an image having gradations is transferred onto the image- receiving medium, and the ink comprising the heat-fusible acrylic resin which is colorless and transparent is transferred onto the transferred image to provide uniformity and glossiness.
