Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect adhesion of water drops accurately, by jointly using a heating means for a pair of detection electrodes provided for detection of the adhesion of water drops to evaporate away water drops remaining adhering to a sensor section.
CONSTITUTION: When water drops such as rain drops adhere to a sensor section 1, an electrostatic capacitance between a pair of detection electrodes changes and an oscillation frequency of a frequency oscillating section 2 varies. At a detector section 3, changes in the oscillation frequency are detected to judge the degree of adhesion of water drops. A control signal Sct is generated from the detecting section 3 according to the results of judgement. From the degree of adhesion of water drops, a heating control section 4 judges whether water drops remaining adhering to the sensor section 1 are above a specified value or not to heat a heating part 6 by a heating power source 5. The sensor section 1 is heated to remove water drops remaining adhering thereto. This enables detection of adhesion of water drops accurately without water drops remaining adhering to the sensor section 1.
