PURPOSE:To enable the change-over between a thermal recording and a thermal transfer recording, by a method wherein a thermal transfer ink sheet is provided between a platen roller and a thermal head, a slit perforating part in a main scanning direction is disposed before or after the thermal head, and each output is controlled according to a change-over signal. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer recording, a perforation instruction signal (j)=OFF is issued from a control part 8, an ink sheet take-up motor 4 and a paper feed motor 7b are driven, a color ink sheet 1 is taken up by an ink sheet take-up roller 5, a thermal recording paper 7a is fed forward or reverse, and a color recording is executed by a heating element part 2a. In a thermal recording, the perforation instruction signal (j) is ON is issued from the control part 8, a resistor 6c generates heat to make a slit 1b on the color ink sheet 1, and the ink sheet take-up motor 4 and the paper feed roller 7b are brought to a stop.
