Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent development of skinning caused by solidified material on molten metal surface and to beforehand prevent breakage of a pouring nozzle by arranging an induction heating device at back face of a belt near the molten metal surface in a mold part formed by belts and molds and heating the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:The mold part M having rectanglar cross section extended to vertical direction is formed by one pair of endless metal belts 1, 1' parallel running through top rolls 3, 3' for positioning and one pair of side face molds 11, 11'. The molten metal is supplied into the mold part M from a pouring nozzle 7 and cooled by cooling pads 5, 5' arranged at back face of the metal belts 1, 1' to cast the cast slab 7. In the above twin belt type continuous casting apparatus, one pair of electromagnetic coils 9, 9' mutually facing to the other's are arranged to the back face of the belts 1, 1' near the molten metal surface 8 of the mold part M. By this method, the molten metal is heated by Joule's heat generated with line 10 of magnetic force. Further, the molten metal surface 8 is not solidified and the breakage of the molten metal nozzle 7 caused by skinning of the solidified material can be prevented.
