Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a cartridge for capturing radioactive nuclides and heavy metals which is safe to handle by packing acrylic fibers deposited with an insoluble ferrocyanide into a cylindrical body having an inlet and outlet for a treated liquid. CONSTITUTION:The acrylic fibers 4 deposited with the insoluble ferrocyanide are packed into the cylindrical body having the inlet 2 and the outlet 3 for the treated liquid. Acrylic fibers consisting of a copolymer of 2 or >=3 kinds of monomers contg. >=40wt.% acrylonitrile or a homopolymer of acrylonitrile are satisfactory as the acrylic fibers. Deposition of the insoluble ferrocyanide on the acrylic fibers is executed, for example, by blending the insoluble ferrocyanide with a stock soln. for spinning at the time of spinning the acrylic fibers, then spinning the soln. in accordance with the conventional method. The cartridge in which the acrylic fibers 4 deposited with the insoluble ferrocyanide are packed can be easily mounted to a treatment system or exchanged in such a manner and since there is no leakage of the treated liquid at the time of mounting or exchanging, the safety is enhanced.
