Abstract

PURPOSE:To resolve (+ or -)-cis-permethric acid and (-)-cis-permethric acid in good yield and high purity, by treating (+ or -)-cis-permethric acid using a specific optical resolution agent. CONSTITUTION:An optically active 1-(p-tolyl)ethylamine or optically active cis-N-benzyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexylamine is added to (+ or -)-cis-permethric acid and the mixture is dissolved in a solvent such as methanol while heating and cooled to give supersaturation and a diastereoisomer is deposited. Then the diastereoisomer is treated with a base and further reacted with an acid to provided the aimed product. The above-mentioned optical resolution agent is used at an amount of 0.8-1 equivalent based on the (+ or -)-cis-permethric acid.
