Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the hydrolysis of castor oil in high decomposition yield, by carrying out the hydrolysis of castor oil with lipase in two steps comprising the 1st step using a specific lipase having alpha-site selectivity and the 2nd step using a lipase having an origin different from that of the lipase of the 1st step. CONSTITUTION:Castor oil is hydrolyzed with a lipase having alpha-site selectivity and exhibiting positive hydrolysis characteristic at 35 deg.C and 24hr (the 1st hydrolysis step) and the obtained reaction product is separated into an oily phase containing a free fatty acid and an aqueous phase containing the lipase (the 1st separation step). The oil is hydrolyzed with a lipase having an origin different from the origin of the lipase used in the 1st hydrolysis step (the 2nd hydrolysis step) and the product is separated into an oily phase ad an aqueous phase (the 2nd separation step). An emulsion is produced from castor oil and the lipase-containing aqueous phase obtained by the 1st or 2nd step and the aqueous phase is separated from the emulsion to obtain a high-concentration castor oil emulsion containing lipase. The produced emulsion is recycled to the 1st or 2nd hydrolysis step, respectively, to obtain a castor oil fatty acid.
