Abstract

PURPOSE:To hydrolyze castor oil in high decomposition yield while suppressing the esterification reaction of produced hydroxyfatty acids with each other, by using a specific lipase in the hydrolysis of castor oil. CONSTITUTION:5-70wt.%, preferably 30-65wt.% of castor oil is dispersed in an aqueous solution of 0.01-20pts.wt., preferably 0.05-15pts.wt. (based on 100pts.wt. of the castor oil) of a lipase having alpha-site selectivity and exhibiting positive hydrolysis characteristics at 35 deg.C and 24hr. The dispersion is reacted at -10-+55 deg.C, preferably 0-45 deg.C under stirring to effect the hydrolysis of the castor oil at a hydrolysis yield of >=70%. The reaction is carried out under a condition to complete the reaction spending >=48hr, especially >=72hr at 20-30 deg.C.
