In order to form the crater to the doughnut-like shape swollen uniformly around a hole, the assisting gas 8 from the tip of an assisting gas nozzle 5 is injected vertically to the machining surface 6 in the coaxial direction with the laser beam 7 which is projected so that projecting conditions are made to an inequality 1. By this method, the crater with the satisfactory hole shape can be formed and accordingly, the service life of the roll can be extended remarkably and the durable-type galling property of a rolled steel plate can be improved.
