Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable high-density magnetic recording by forming a satin-like rough surface of a prescribed range by surface roughness consisting of non- directional rugged parts having nearly an equal size. CONSTITUTION:Ni-P alloy plating is formed on a base material constituting a substrate for magnetic disks and this plating surface is flatly polished to produce the nonmagnetic substrate for magnetic disks. Hard particles for working are blown together with a pressurized gas on this flat substrate surface, by which the fine non-directional ruggedness is formed over a part of the entire part of the flat substrate surface. The substrate surface formed with the fine ruggedness is further subjected to polishing or cutting to form the substrate having the satin-like rough surface formed with the nearly equal non-directional ruggedness on a part or the entire part of the substrate surface. The stabilization to the lower floating up of a magnetic head with high-density magnetic recording is thereby obtd. and the attraction between the magnetic disk and the magnetic head is prevented.
