PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording medium extremely excellent in transfer reproducibility, by forming a thermoplastic substance layer containing a substance liquid at the ambient temp. to one surface of a heat resistant support. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording medium is constituted by forming a thermoplastic substance layer 12 containing a substance liquid at the ambient temp. to one surface of a heat resistant support 11. As the heat resistant support 11, condenser paper and a film composed of a heat resistant polymer such as polyimide, polyamideimide or polycarbonate can be used. The thermoplastic substance layer 12 contains not only a thermoplastic substance containing a dye or pigment as a binder but also fine particles 13 of a liquid substance and has thermal characteristics such that a m.p. or softening point is 40 deg.C or more in order to improve the sharpness of a printing pixel and to prevent bleeding and blocking during storage but 200 deg.C or less in order to prevent the deterioration of the characteristics of a thermal element due to an increase in energy to be applied, and the content of the dye or pigment is desirably 1-50 wt.%. As the substance liquid at the ambient temp., water, kerosine, xylylethane, isopropylnaphthalene, alcohols, toluene, xylene or the like are used.
